Your care is our number one priority. With our consultant-delivered service, we always aim to have the doctors you meet at your outpatients appointment perform your surgery and see you for follow-up appointments. Sometimes, to get you seen as quickly as possible, we may ask that another doctor assists with your care. And you can even speak to our clinicians 24 hours a day after you’ve had your surgery. It’s all part of the Care UK service.
Getting prepared for surgery
One of the benefits of being treated at our hospital is the ‘one-stop-service’ of your outpatient appointment. We’ll complete your pre-treatment tests with our nursing team there and then, to save you making multiple trips. If required, you may need to see one of our anaesthetists at a later point or go off-site for diagnostic tests before proceeding with us. During your visit, the team will explain the next step of your journey and you should receive a date within a matter of weeks for your next appointment.
Your outpatient appointment is also an opportunity for you to meet a specialist consultant who will normally be the one performing your treatment. Feel free to ask any questions you wish – you may even want to write these down ahead of your appointment. They will explain any special preparations you may need to make before your treatment.
One the day of your treatment, wear something light and comfortable, so you’re as relaxed as possible. You may want to bring personal toiletries, comfortable footwear such as slippers, something to read, and any medication you routinely take.
When you leave the hospital after you’ve had your treatment, you’ll be given full details of your follow-up care. We will inform your GP that you’ve been discharged from the treatment centre and telephone you, usually the day after your treatment, to check that you are recovering well.
It’s crucial to rest and take care of yourself after your treatment. If you have any worries or concerns, please call us at any time on our 24-hour Patient Advice Line to speak to a member of the clinical team. This helpline is designed to ensure that your recovery is as speedy and successful as possible, so please use it as much as you need to.
